AWE Signs Agreement with Other Leading International Water Efficiency Organizations

Source: Alliance for Water Efficiency

The Alliance for Water Efficiency in the USA, Waterwise in the UK, and savewater!® Alliance in Australia have signed an international agreement to develop and communicate best practice water efficiency information. All three of these countries suffer from water resource issues with the USA and Australia suffering from years of long term droughts and many areas of the UK being defined as water stressed. The agreement comes at a time when there is much water efficiency activity in the UK and Waterwise is looking to scale this up to deliver water efficient products to thousands of homes and enable individuals to make easy, small behavior changes. Known as the International Federation for Water Efficiency (IFWE), the Federation will act as a global body focused on water efficiency best practice and to undertake water conservation projects that will benefit the international community.

Mary Ann Dickinson, President and CEO, Alliance for Water Efficiency says, "We are delighted to participate in this important international partnership. Our three organizations are the first water efficiency NGOs, so it makes sense to work together to achieve greater collective success in our water conservation programs."

Jacob Tompkins, Managing Director of Waterwise says, "There is a lot that we can learn from our friends in Australia and America as they have been practicing water efficiency for years and have run some very successful campaigns. The need for water efficiency in the UK is becoming increasingly important with our growing population, increased water use and large amounts of energy contributing to heating water in the home. The UK is also unique in its regional variations to water use and we hope that this will be useful for other countries to learn from."

Nigel Finney, CEO of the savewater!® Alliance sees IFWE as an excellent platform for developing and communicating the very best in knowledge and new products to all countries, "It is integral that there is a central body to establish best practice and consistency throughout the industry, and IFWE will provide an opportunity to combine the best resources from Australia, the UK and the USA." said Finney.

The agreement focuses on:

  1. undertaking water conservation projects that will provide benefit to the global water community
  2. sharing water efficiency project results and solutions
  3. standardizing global definitions and nomenclatures used in the water sector
  4. compiling and maintaining a central database of best practice in water efficiency
  5. sharing information on and helping to promote water efficient products
  6. working together with other global regions on relevant projects

The Alliance for Water Efficiency welcomes the agreement and looks forward to working together with Waterwise in the UK, and savewater!® Alliance in Australia.
