Flows over the scenic Shoshone Falls
will drop to 300 cubic feet per second (cfs) this week as upstream
releases of water for the out-migration of juvenile salmon smolts come to
an end. Previously flows had averaged about 1,000 cfs.
The 300 cfs flows will continue until after the Labor Day weekend under an agreement between Idaho Power and the City of Twin Falls. It calls for the company to provide aesthetic flows of 300 cfs over the falls during daylight hours from April 1 through Labor Day when water is available. Aesthetic flows are a part of the company’s federal license to operate the Shoshone Falls Power Plant. The 212-foot-high falls can be viewed from the south side of the Snake River. The Idaho Power facilities on the north side of the river are closed to the public. Contact: Dennis
