Albuquerque, NM -- Governor Bill Richardson today announced he is releasing $300,000 to help complete new water lines in Albuquerque’s South Valley. The discretionary award from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will go to build new water lines to southwestern Bernalillo County. The improvements will increase water delivery and enhance fire protection.

“I’m pleased that the Recovery Act has provided our state with resources for investments in New Mexico’s infrastructure,” Governor Richardson said.

The award will be applied to Phase 6 of Bernalillo County’s ongoing South Valley Drinking Water Project. The total cost of the current phase of the project is $6.4 million, and will serve about 500 properties in the area.

“This important infrastructure development project addresses a critical, basic need for South Valley residents,” Environment Department Secretary Ron Curry said. “Governor Richardson’s award makes this improvement project possible by providing the final piece of necessary financing.”

Today’s allocation comes from Governor Richardson’s discretionary stimulus funding.
